Even though many of us have endured another winter snow storm, spring is coming closer! Are you planning your spring yard activities? Your lawn will be coming out of winter hibernation soon and will require an application of fertilizer to get off to a good start for the year. But what about weed pressure? Have you been less than happy with the number of weeds you have in your yard? Applying a pre-emergent weed control in spring can help prevent many types of weeds from taking over your lawn. Timing is everything when applying a pre-emergent. As the name implies, they only work if applied before the weed’s growth period begins. In general, apply pre-emergent herbicides shortly after the frost has gone out of the ground. Heavy weed pressure can also be a sign of acidity in your soil. Have your soil pH tested, and if it is below 6.5 consider an application of lime to raise your soil pH. Think spring!
