We love to cook with garlic. It is so flavorful and adds so much character to many dishes! If you have never grown your own garlic, you are missing out on easy vegetable to cultivate and enjoy. Late fall is the right time to plant, prior to the ground freezing. Break apart the garlic bulbs into cloves. Planting the larger cloves provides a better chance of harvesting larger bulbs. Plant the cloves point side up in rows that are 6 inches apart to a depth of 2 inches. Mulching will protect the cloves from winter frost damage. Garlic likes soils rich in loam and organic content, and do not tolerate excessive water. Plant in areas with good drainage, and add peat if necessary to improve soil organic content!
