We had a brief thaw here in the Midwest for about a week and I got a chance to see a good share of my front yard for the first time since December. What I saw was the tell-tale highways of one or several industrious voles. Voles burrow under the snow in winter and chew up turf while making paths from different hiding places in your yard. In my case, they love to hang out in and around decorative evergreens. Spring repair is fairly straight forward. Rake up the dead grass and top dress with a little black dirt. Then add a combination seed product, like ENCAP’s Fast Acting Grass Repair Kit. The damage will be gone in no time. Wish I could say the same thing for the voles!
