Why use gypsum

Posted By: ENCAP on 7/16/2009

Are you failing to see a good response to applications of fertilizer on your lawn or garden? It could be that your soil is slightly alkaline from continued applications of fertilizer and or heavy rains. This condition can make nutrients in the soil unavailable to your plants. A build up of exchangeable sodium on the soil surface can also result in this condition. Gypsum can be added to help correct these conditions. Gypsum is Calcium Sulfate, a natural mineral that can be mined. Not only does gypsum help reclaim sodic soils, it has also been shown to improve soil structure which helps root establishment. It can help to prevent soil crusting, helps improve water retention, improves drainage on clays, and it adds calcium and sulfur, two important plant nutrients to the soil. You may just find that an application of gypsum will allow you to skip an application of fertilizer on your lawn maintenance program. ENCAP makes applying gypsum easy with our Fast Acting GypsumTM. The product is prilled so it applies easily using any type of fertilizer spreader and it breaks down quickly to begin working in your soil.
