If you are growing tomatoes in your garden, now is probably a good time to trim back excessive growth. Look for stems with flowers or forming fruit. In close proximity to these there will be secondary growth without flowers or fruit. These can be pruned back so the plant puts more energy into producing tomatoes, and less into plant growth.
Staking the plants, or caging around the plants, provides support for the plants and helps provide good air flow. This can help eliminate mildews which can form in areas of poor circulation. Make sure soils are rich in organics and well drained. Gypsum can improve soil porosity and help correct poorly draining soils.
